Position Title: Inpatient Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Behavioral Health Unit
Location: WI
19-bed Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit (average daily census: 17).
Serves adult patients (18+).
Collaborative, multidisciplinary team including:
2 Mental Health Clinicians
Occupational Therapist
Psychologist
Nursing staff
Behavioral Health Technicians
Staffing model: One Psychiatrist and one Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) per shift.
The Inpatient Advanced Practice Clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides comprehensive psychiatric and medical care to adult patients on the Behavioral Health Unit. Working in a team-based environment, the APC is responsible for admissions, rounding, consultations, and coordination of care with psychiatry, nursing, and allied health professionals.
Schedule & CoverageShift: 7:00 AM 7:00 PM
Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off (subject to adjustment; may not require full 7-day rotation every cycle).
On-Call: Shared responsibility with inpatient and outpatient psychiatry providers.
Includes covering admissions and medical needs from 7:00 PM 7:00 AM.
Inpatient providers currently cover weekend call during their scheduled week (encouraged but not required).
Admissions: Conduct psychiatric and medical assessments for new patients.
Rounding: Provide medical care for approximately half of the unit s patients each shift.
Consultations: Complete psychiatric consults at Neenah and Appleton hospitals.
Appleton consults are completed via telehealth.
Documentation:
Complete history & physicals and consult notes within 24 hours.
Send notes to physician for attestation.
Progress notes do not require physician co-signature.
Collaborating physician reviews and authenticates discharge summaries within 30 days of patient discharge.
Response Expectations:
Telephonic: Respond within 15 minutes for ED calls, 30 minutes for inpatient calls.
On-Site: Arrive within 30 minutes following telephonic contact.
Licensed Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP preferred) or Physician Assistant with behavioral health experience.
Current Wisconsin license (or ability to obtain prior to start).
Experience in inpatient psychiatry or behavioral health strongly preferred.
Commitment to collaborative, team-based care.
Work closely with Psychiatrists, APCs, and the multidisciplinary team.
