CDL A TRUCK DRIVER
$2,000 SIGNING BONUS THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2025
Pay: $26.00 - $31.00 per hour

About The Company

Ruston Paving is a commercial and industrial paving construction contractor with offices in New York, Virginia, and North Carolina. Established in 1943, we are a family-oriented company with three generations of experience in asphalt paving projects ranging from minor repairs to larger projects including reclamation and recycling, and new construction.

General Summary Of The Position

Teamwork is a major part of every position at Ruston Paving. The truck driver operates trucks with various configurations of dump bodies to transport and dump materials such as stone and asphalt as needed. The driver may operate other vehicles or configurations as assigned and trained.

Essential Functions

The following are essential functions and responsibilities of the position. They may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Perform daily truck equipment inspections per FMCSA guidelines to ensure safety and usability.
  • Complete written daily inspection reports and submit maintenance requests as needed.
  • Maintain truck logs or time records per state, federal, and company policies.
  • Assist with proper and legal loading of materials for transport.
  • Weigh in/out of scales for load ticketing and weight compliance.
  • Operate truck safely to and from project destinations.
  • Maintain contact with dispatch for instructions.
  • Tarps loads and secure cargo appropriately for transit.
  • Chock wheels when leaving the truck per policy.
  • Keep cargo area clean and inspect for loose debris.
  • Perform post-trip vehicle inspections and document any defects or deficiencies.
  • Comply with all safety procedures required by governmental agencies and Ruston Paving.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

A good candidate demonstrates responsibility for safe transportation of materials and adherence to policies. We look for:

  • Ability to adjust routing with awareness of weight restrictions and vehicle permits.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, materials, and safety precautions in construction.

  • Ability to work under diverse conditions and maintain attendance.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability to deviations from standard procedures.
  • Ability to perform job duties in adverse weather and field conditions.

Education And Experience

  • Any combination of education and work experience demonstrating ability to perform the work.
  • Valid Class A or Class B CDL (CDL A, CDL A Restricted, or CDL B).
  • USDOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience transporting heavy construction equipment and/or materials for paving or site excavation.

Additional Requirements And Benefits

  • Shifts start and end at the local division office/shop; transportation to job sites is provided.
  • Uniforms and PPE are provided and must be worn as required.
  • Occasional out-of-town projects with per diem pay when applicable.
  • Double time pay for weekend work.
  • Employees may be required to travel to other locations to perform duties.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • Occasional standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Occasional lifting up to 60 lbs.

  • Ability to move limbs quickly and sustain stamina.
