Job Summary

The CDI Data Analyst will support the CDI department by developing and providing scheduled data packages and completing data reporting needs, as well as maintaining the shared departmental database, for both outpatient and inpatient settings. Works closely with CDI and Coding Leadership to communicate trends identified in their reviews and to make suggestions for continual process improvement in the form of written and verbal reports. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop analytic strategies to assess the quality and safety of care, and associated activities for documentation improvement efforts, provided at WellStar Health System.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions; accurately completes timely reports as requested by CDI and Coding Leadership in an executive summary format; ensures and maintains the integrity of data used for reports or dashboards; provides other documentation or reports as requested by leadership (including but not limited to EPIC, 3M, Coding & CDI Auditing Software, other external data); communicates trends identified in CDI and Coding reviews and makes suggestions for continual process improvement to CDI and Coding leadership in written and verbal reports; utilizes Excel or other platforms to build, compile and distribute scheduled departmental data dashboards; collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop analytic strategies to assess quality and safety of care and related activities for Outpatient and Inpatient Documentation Improvement efforts; oversees and maintains shared data sources for CDI and Coding departments and annually updates/reviews data and intranet pages; uses reporting functionality in EPIC/EPSi, 3M 360 Encompass, Vizient and other data sources; assists CDI and Coding leadership with ad hoc report creation and data projects for daily operations; interprets a wide range of technical instructions and abstract variables; conducts validation of reports and special project tasks to ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical information used for measuring and reporting physician and hospital outcomes; builds systems to transform raw data into actionable business insights.
  • Process Improvement / Project Management: Plans and oversees data-related projects and timelines; identifies and applies best practices for data analytics relevant to CDI and Coding in both outpatient and inpatient settings; partners with CDI, Coding, CI and IT Connect teams to suggest technology improvements and efficiencies; serves on work teams to provide CDI perspective; represents the CDI Department on IT projects, coordinating, testing, and communicating issues and resolutions; acts as a super user for CDI and Coding analytics tools and provides education to stakeholders; participates in application testing and prepares training materials and communications for CDI/Coding stakeholders; acts as a technology training resource for WellStar CDI and Coding teams; works on miscellaneous CDI and Coding IT initiatives as needed.
  • Customer Support: Understands business needs and objectives, and adjusts to shifting departmental priorities; collaborates with Leadership to present trends and metrics relevant for CDI and Coding; demonstrates eagerness to understand customer needs and assess data applicability; provides data interpretation services for key customers; performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education

  • Bachelors Health Science or Bachelors Health Administration or Bachelors Statistics or Bachelors Other

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) from AHIMA within 1 Year Required or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from AHIMA within 1 Year Required or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA within 1 Year Required

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years relevant data reporting and analytics experience, including working in Tableau environment and/or Microsoft PowerBI preferred; Proficiency in CDI or coding, including chart review experience preferred

Required Minimum Skills

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong logical reasoning and business intelligence; exceptional written and verbal communication; analytical skills and strong organizational abilities; ability to apply data analysis and reporting concepts; attention to detail; problem-solving aptitude; time management skills; ability to collaborate with other departments to achieve goals; ability to review data from multiple sources and aggregate into meaningful information; familiarity with Epic, 3M 360 Encompass and Vizient; understanding of DRGs, HCC & RAF; database management experience; background in healthcare regulations and coding guidelines; familiarity with standard healthcare-related metrics.
