Job Description

Electrician

This position is expected to have advanced electrical skills and knowledge as this electrician role is responsible for supervising, overseeing, coordinating, and hands on work for all the electrical work of projects, requiring coordination with subcontractors as needed according to project plans, timeframes and changes to each project. This role will have the opportunity to train and mentor our amazing student employees. In addition to their supervisory responsibilities, this electrician will also be responsible to perform the needed electrical work required for each project. This position will require the employee to be “on call” 24 hours a day for a week. This will happen for several weeks throughout the year.

What You’ll Do In This Position

  • Supervision, Safety, and Project Management
  • Help with pre-construction meetings which include project phasing, schedules, reviewing construction documents, equipment selection, installation verification, equipment startup, and commissioning
  • Construction and remodeling projects
  • Assign and respond to Service Requests for maintenance and repairs
  • Respond to unscheduled daily shop requests which vary in nature and urgency
  • Responsible for budget, quality, schedule, and safety on each project.
  • Procure materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers.
  • Update construction and maintenance progress
  • Coordinate subcontractors’ work.
  • Assuring personal safety and the safety of others around the work areas.

Required

What qualifies you for this role:

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • 4 years Journeyman electrical experience or equivalent required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization skills
  • The ability to maintain a good working relationship with all involved personnel, including treating others with respect and kindness
  • Ability to read and understand electrical plans with a knowledge of related codes and regulations.
  • Has a valid Utah Drivers\' License

Physical Exam And Lift Test Required

Physical Effort

ModeratePhysical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. Frequent handling of building materials and pulling cable through duct banks and utility tunnels. Working with equipment weighing 20-50 lbs. Occasionally may go up to 100 plus lbs.

Environment

Periodic exposure to unfavorable conditions because of unavoidable needs to be in variable temperatures or wet environments, etc. Exposed to noise, sawdust, dirt, dust, cold and heat. Working on knees and in cramped quarters.

Hazards

Moderate existing or potential hazards. Use of a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment. Climbing ladders and high lifts

Physical Requirements

  • Perform tasks such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and reaching overhead to install, repair, or inspect electrical systems. Closed-toe shoes, gloves, and protective eyewear are mandatory for safety.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, testing meters, and electrical equipment as part of daily tasks. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are required.
  • Perform electrical installations and repairs in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and noise. Proper protective clothing and gear are recommended.
  • Regularly walk, stand, and climb for extended periods during jobsite inspections, installations, and maintenance tasks. Hard hats, safety vests, and other PPE may be required depending on the site.

Preferred

  • 5- 7 years’ Journeyman electrical experience or equivalent preferred
  • Master Electrical License or equivalent experience required

Pay Grade: 51/52

Typical Starting Pay: $28.25 to $39.75 an hour
