Position Summary The Director of Project Management is responsible for leading and strengthening the discipline of project management (PM) across the Buildings Services Branch. This role provides oversight, guidance, and support to project managers to ensure the successful delivery of architecture and engineering projects that align with Bodwé\'s mission, values, and client commitments. This position focuses on elevating project management practice across teams, driving consistency in scope, schedule, and budget management, while supporting team performance, client satisfaction, and long-term impact. The Director works closely with studio and discipline leaders to match project managers to assignments, support workload balancing, and develop individual capabilities. This role plays a central part in aligning operations with business goals and works to ensure that project delivery is both disciplined and adaptable. The Director of Project Management also serves as a Senior Project Manager on select projects, exemplifying exceptional project management and setting the standard for project delivery excellence. The Director also serves as a mentor and internal coach, fostering a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous learning. This role champions PM process improvement and collaborates with other Directors to implement tools, training, and systems that support successful delivery across all sectors and clients. Discipline Leadership : Lead the strategic development and oversight of the project management discipline. Establish and refine project management standards, tools, and best practices to support delivery excellence. Represent project management in firmwide leadership discussions, strategic initiatives, and operational planning. Promote consistency in project execution across studios and disciplines. Project Oversight : Provide oversight and mentorship on project execution strategies, risk management, and client engagement. Monitor project delivery performance, identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities for continuous improvement. Lead project reviews at key milestones to assess financial health, schedule, scope, and team dynamics. Process + Standards Development : Create and maintain standardized project delivery workflows, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting tools. Collaborate with finance, HR, and business operations to align project delivery systems with enterprise processes. Promote the adoption of project management tools and digital platforms to support transparency and efficiency. Mentorship + Development : Mentor project managers across all studios, providing coaching, performance feedback, and development planning. Oversee onboarding and ongoing training to ensure PMs are equipped with the skills and support to succeed. Support a culture of accountability, empowerment, and team ownership. Resource + Operational Planning : Coordinate with studio directors and discipline leaders to align staffing and project assignments based on capacity, expertise, and development goals. Assist with forecasting and workload planning to ensure balanced and efficient staffing. Help resolve resourcing conflicts to maintain delivery momentum. Client + Business Engagement : Support client engagement strategies, including project planning, scoping, contracting, and progress communication. Participate in proposal development, fee estimating, and interview preparation for strategic pursuits. Guide project teams on building strong client relationships through responsive and reliable communication. Financial Oversight : Monitor and report on project budgets, labor planning, profitability, and earned value. Partner with finance and firm leadership to drive project financial performance. Support the development of revenue goals and key performance metrics for the PM discipline. Qualifications and Experience
Education : Required: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Experience, Certification, or Licensure : 10+ years in the AEC industry, including at least 5 years in a project management leadership role. PMP certification or equivalent preferred. Experience in federal and tribal markets preferred. Must have Real ID or Passport for travel. Must have valid driver\'s license. Technical + Professional Skills : Strong understanding of project management processes (scope, schedule, budget, risk). Experience with project management software platforms and digital planning tools. Demonstrated leadership and team-building experience. Strong communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills. Knowledge of contracts, fee structures, and AE business operations. Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position primarily operates in a professional office setting with standard office equipment and a quiet, climate-controlled environment. While in the office, there is no regular exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials, or heavy machinery. The role also requires periodic travel to project sites, including locations undergoing renovation or active construction. Site visits may expose the employee to non-temperature-controlled environments, construction noise, dust, and other typical conditions. PPE may be required. On-site work may require atypical hours at the request of the client or role demands. Physical Demands Sitting/Standing : Not a sedentary role; must move around a construction site. Walking : Ability to move about outside in various terrains to access sites. Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling : May require such movements to inspect foundations, crawlspaces, roofs. Using Hands/Fingers : Frequent use of laptops, mice, keyboards, monitors, phones, scanners, copiers, and fax machines. Talking/Hearing : Continuous communication to exchange information and make decisions. Seeing : Ability to see construction details for quality control.
