Boom Supersonic
Overview
As a Software Engineer at Boom, you will contribute to embedded jet engine control software, build tools and pipelines, and develop applications across real-time embedded systems, cloud services, and data visualization for aerospace design and testing. You will work closely with aerospace engineers to understand requirements and automate workflows, with software that directly impacts supersonic flight. Responsibilities
Contribute to embedded jet engine control software that interfaces with sensors, actuators, and real-time systems Build tools, pipelines, and services in Python, Golang, and Typescript that support aircraft and engine design Build embedded software in C, C++, or Rust to control real-time engine and aircraft systems Develop and deploy applications on AWS (S3, Batch, SQS, ECS, FSx, Lambda) using infrastructure-as-code (AWS CDK) Deliver modern React front-ends to help engineers visualize and interact with complex datasets Collaborate with aerospace engineers to understand requirements and automate error-prone workflows Support integration efforts with simulations, testbeds, and instrumentation Participate in strong software practices — version control, unit tests, CI/CD pipelines, and reproducible builds Grow into increasing ownership of production-critical code as the aircraft and engine mature The Ideal Candidate
Strong programming skills in Python, Golang, Typescript, Rust, C, or C++ Comfortable in Linux environments, using Git, and working within CI/CD workflows Exposure to embedded or real-time systems development (classroom, projects, or internships) Eager to learn aerospace concepts — propulsion, control laws, aerodynamics, structures — and apply software to accelerate that work Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment What Will Set You Apart
Familiarity with scientific computing, numerical simulations, or data-intensive workflows A passion for automation, you see repetitive work and immediately think "I could script that." Passion for aviation, propulsion, and building software and data tools that make complex systems work A portfolio, GitHub repo, or class projects that show you can ship code others rely on Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (graduating in Spring 2026) Coursework or project experience in embedded software, robotics, aerospace, distributed systems, cloud services, or data pipelines is a plus but not required Compensation
The Base Salary Range for this position is $73,000 - $92,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom's total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits. Start Date
This position is expected to start in early summer 2026 (May or June) to align with typical graduation timelines. ITAR & EEO
To conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
