The inaugural SAVP/CDO will lead a next-generation philanthropic enterprise supporting Dell Medical School and UT Medicine. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of Dell Medical School, the SAVP/CDO will shape development strategy, align with UT Medicine’s mission, and drive a bold philanthropic agenda to support the UT Austin Medical Center campaign and beyond. This is a transformational opportunity to build and scale a donor-centric advancement program in a growing academic medical system. Responsibilities

Build a scalable, strategic, and sustainable development enterprise aligned with UT Medicine’s goals and the priorities of the capital medical center campaign. Craft a compelling case for support that connects UT Medicine’s mission to community needs and national impact, expanding philanthropic support beyond Central Texas. Deepen relationships with existing donors and grow a robust pipeline of principal and transformational gift prospects. Assess and refine internal structures, systems, and workflows to ensure efficiency, transparency, and long-term sustainability, supported by data analytics and measurable outcomes. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean, guiding philanthropic engagement and positioning UT Medicine as a top national priority among donors and stakeholders. Engage faculty, clinical, and administrative leaders as ambassadors for philanthropy; equip them with tools and messaging to inspire support for departments and programs. Lead a donor-centric fundraising operation across the full giving spectrum, emphasizing grateful patient philanthropy, principal and transformational gifts, and programmatic investments. Personally manage and steward a portfolio of transformational gift prospects; design and deliver a best-in-class donor experience with personalized stewardship and recognition strategies. Foster cross-campus collaboration between fundraising, communications, and marketing to tell stories of impact and opportunity. Team Development & Organizational Culture

Inspire and lead a growing team of fundraising professionals, cultivating a high-performance culture grounded in purpose, trust, innovation, and inclusion. Recruit and retain top talent and establish an organizational structure that supports professional development and operational excellence. Establish and track key performance indicators, balancing achievement with creativity and thoughtful risk-taking. Reporting Relationships

The SAVP/CDO reports to the Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of Dell Medical School and works with the Chief Administrative Officer and the University’s Vice President for Development to align fundraising strategy across UT Medicine and Texas Development. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Deep understanding of the UT Austin, Dell Medical School, and UT Medicine mission and strategic relevance. Ability to scale an emerging development program, increase revenue, and build infrastructure and a high-performance culture. Political savvy to collaborate with senior leadership and maximize philanthropic potential. Strong communication skills to translate complex concepts for donors and stakeholders. Inclusive, empowering leadership with a track record of recruiting and mentoring talent. Decisive, entrepreneurial leadership with comfort leading through ambiguity. Knowledge of grateful patient fundraising, donor privacy/compliance (HIPAA), and development in academic medicine. Familiarity with AI, analytics, and data platforms to inform strategy and optimize fundraising outcomes. Financial acuity and commitment to operational efficiency and impact. Qualifications

Strategic, values-driven fundraising leader with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing advancement teams in healthcare, academic medicine, or higher education. Experience advising executive leadership and contributing to institutional strategy; ability to build relationships in a matrixed university and medical system. Passionate about UT Austin’s mission and the potential of Dell Medical School and UT Medicine; ability to inspire donors, faculty, and the community with a compelling philanthropic vision. Creative problem-solver and data-informed decision-maker with a focus on long-term sustainability and measurable impact. Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Expertise in donor strategy, campaign planning, pipeline development, and stewardship with metrics and accountability. Minimum of 12 years of progressive development leadership, preferably in healthcare or academic medicine. Experience serving on a senior leadership team in a complex, matrixed organization. Proven ability to lead transformational fundraising efforts, including capital campaigns and programmatic initiatives, with experience securing eight-figure gifts. Working Environment / Equipment
