We are looking for a Technical Artist to help build an unannounced game, supporting and optimizing art production with technical and artistic expertise, problem solving, and collaboration to monitor and address performance issues. This role operates in a dynamic environment with fluid deadlines and changing priorities. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid position, with on-site and remote work. Potential home studios: Irvine, CA or Albany, NY. Responsibilities
Directly contribute to establishing and improving artist workflows for performant content in Unreal Engine. Demonstrate proficiency in procedural world content generation using tools such as Houdini, Gaea, PCG. Illustrate experience with material and material function creation. Collaborate with artists and engineers to monitor content and document best practices. Provide technical support for a small team of artists and designers. Stay current on industry trends, including advancements in commercial game engines and workflow efficiencies.
Minimum Requirements
Experience: 5+ years in AAA tech art game teams. Knowledge & Skills: In-depth knowledge of AAA game engines, art implementation and integration; proficiency in industry-standard 3D/2D tools (Houdini, Substance Designer, Maya, Gaea); portfolio with examples and detailed breakdowns; strong understanding of physically based rendering; foundation in scripting (blueprints, Python, HLSL, C++). Key Attributes: Team-oriented, ability to inspire others, self-motivated problem solving, understanding of related game development areas (lighting, VFX, characters, animation, audio, rendering, systems).
Extra Points
Experience with early development R&D phases; Unreal Engine: layered material system, editor utility widgets, profiling, validators. Passion for playing a wide variety of video games.
