Job Description
JOB SUMMARY The Technician - Operating Room & Survey at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for preparing surgical procedures by selecting supplies, instruments, and equipment, performing surgical counts, maintaining sterile techniques, assisting surgeons, and decontaminating clinical equipment. Their responsibilities include enforcing safety measures, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and managing various physical tasks such as lifting, pushing/pulling, sitting, walking, bending, and reaching. The role demands good communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle stress in a dynamic environment. JOB
FUNCTIONS Procedure preparation:
Using preference lists, select supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
Surgical Counts along with RN circulator performs sponge needle and instrument counts as specified by policy and procedure of the hospital. Sterile Technique:
Maintains sterility of operating field controls any contamination of that field. Surgeons Assistant:
As a scrubbed member of the team, assist surgeon by performing nurse supervised duties such as handing, instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, dressings as needed. Clinical Equipment:
Decontaminates, cleans and sterilizes instruments for re-use according to hospital policy and procedure. Maintains Performance:
Attends required in services, annual review and Competency education programs. Daily Assignments:
Completes assignments including restocking of supplies and turnaround of room for next use.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent . Required
Associate's Degree Graduate of an accredited school of operating room Technician or 5 years OR experience. Required
Licenses and Certifications
CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician
Work Experience
1-3 years
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Competent to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Files, answer phone, schedules, utilizes computer skills (Excel and Word) when possible, complies reports,
Primary accountability for assisting surgeon as a scrubbed team member.
The Tech will perform under the supervision of a Registered Nurse accountable for handling of instruments and all counts (cleaning and assembly.)
Must organize and prioritize work assignments.
Interacts daily with patients, central sterile processing and O.R. staff and surgeons.
Must have good communication skills and reflect and positive caring attitude toward customers and co-workers.
Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment.
Must be able to provide information regarding instruments and equipment and sterilization techniques.
