Overview The Public Policy and Advocacy Department at the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) ensures that the United States upholds its sacred trust responsibility to Tribal Nations. This work is rooted in historic treaties and agreements that established the foundation of this country.

Our mission is to:

Advocate for federal laws and policies that honor Tribal sovereignty and selfdetermination

Ensure Tribal Nations have a strong voice in health policy decisionmaking

Protect and advance funding, resources, and support for Tribal health systems

Strengthen nationtonation relationships between the U.S. government and Tribal governments

We are building a talent pool for this department to identify candidates for future opportunities. While we are not actively hiring for all positions today, we encourage individuals passionate about Tribal sovereignty and health policy to apply.

Location: All Public Policy & Advocacy positions are in-person and based in Washington, DC.

Potential Opportunities

Policy Associate – Provide research and administrative support, track legislation, and assist in developing policy briefs and reports.

Policy Analyst – Conduct policy analysis, draft reports and recommendations, and represent NIHB in meetings with Tribal leaders, Congress, and federal agencies.

Senior Policy Analyst – Lead high-level policy initiatives, develop advocacy strategies, engage directly with Congressional offices and federal agencies, and provide mentorship to junior staff.

Additional Roles – May include Congressional Relations Specialists or other policy-focused positions, depending on departmental needs.

Strong research, writing, and communication skills

Experience in federal, Tribal, or nonprofit policy environments (varies by level)
