Warehouse And Truck Helper
This position is responsible for: Warehouse: Receives, sorts, and stores donated items in the warehouse storage area; determines the acceptability of donated items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Truck Helper: Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards. Key Responsibilities: Receives, inspects and sorts donated items according to the category and condition. Selects items suitable for storage and distributes same to appropriate storage area in accordance with established procedures. Tags items with dates in accordance with established procedures; Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand written directions. Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted. Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety; Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects; Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
