Overview
Enterprise Architect Application & Cloud (Contract) in Dallas, TX. This position is with Mastech Digital, working with a client in the Oil and Gas domain. This is a 6-month contract (extendable), with in-office presence in Dallas (3 days a week, may be 5 depending on organizational needs and policies). Role Description
The Enterprise Architect Application & Cloud must have 14+ years of IT experience and will provide architectural leadership, design enterprise applications and public cloud architecture (primarily AWS). The role supports implementation of cloud solutions within the organizations Technology and works within the Application Architecture team in the Application Architecture and Reliability Tower of the Digital Grid operation Organization. Strong communication and analytical skills are required to deliver the right tools and collaborate with teams to develop strategies and processes in changing grid operations and landscapes. Primary skills include Oracle Cloud. The role is part of the Technology Solutions community and involves contributing to architecture strategies and roadmaps for cloud-focused initiatives. Responsibilities
Lead the development and enhancement of reference architecture patterns for Enterprise Application Architecture and cloud design/implementation principles. Align Enterprise Architecture patterns to domain or program business strategy. Collaborate with Solution Architects, Technical Leads and Tech Staff to ensure designs align with Enterprise Architecture. Shape the Application Architecture roadmap using technology, domain/program, industry and organizational capability insights. Drive large-scale enterprise program implementations to ensure alignment between architecture and program objectives. Manage architecture across large domains to ensure alignment for cloud-related programs, projects, and initiatives. Application Architect Responsibilities
Participate in the Architecture Review Board (ARB) and in the approval process for projects, procedures, and policies. Approve cloud-focused project designs that can be approved outside the ARB and validate cloud-focused projects before ARB presentation. Participate in Enterprise Solution Review Board and ensure solutions align with Enterprise Architecture Strategies. Collaborate with technology organizations to produce and plan Enterprise Architecture Strategies and Guidelines for areas including application development (cloud and on-premises), COTS applications, and cloud-native design (serverless, microservices, SOA). Design data models, review Solution Architecture artifacts, and deliver scalable, high-performance, highly available architectures with appropriate DR support for various languages (Java, .NET, JavaScript, Python, etc.). Cover Cloud DevOps, containerization (OpenShift on AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud), cloud networking (VPCs, subnets, gateways, firewalls), cloud storage (relational, non-relational, object), cloud security (IAM, identity federation), and cloud infrastructure automation (CloudFormation, Terraform). Participate in vendor/product selection for cloud-focused and related initiatives; contribute to Technology Strategy Roadmap and Product initiatives. Act as Primary Enterprise Application Architect for assigned projects, integrating with capability project teams to produce architecture artifacts and ensure design guidance is followed. Assigned Projects & Deliverables
Produce architecture artifacts; assist with high-level and low-level designs; ensure adherence to architecture guidelines and policies; ensure regulatory, legal and policy requirements are followed. Formulate acceptable processes and use cases; ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements and cybersecurity requirements. Validate design versus as-built architecture at project completion; participate in IT security discussions (cloud security) to assess risk and enhance defense postures. Experience, Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 14+ years in IT application development Minimum 7 years in architecting applications and solutions Minimum 3 years as an Enterprise Architect Advanced understanding of application development, source control management and DevOps practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Experience implementing cloud-based solutions on AWS, IBM Cloud and Azure Strong knowledge of IT risks, cybersecurity, and operating systems Excellent documentation, presentation and mentoring skills Measures of Success
Ability to initiate projects, analyze and deliver strategic architecture assessments on time and within budget Proactive, curious problem-solver who communicates effectively with leadership Respected for expertise and leadership in application development and cloud domains Education & Experience Details
