Overview
Swimming Instructor/Pool Lifeguard (3210) Aquatics SF Recreation and Parks Position is a part-time, permanent civil service role located with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Employment is based on a Position-Based Test and the eligible list may be used for future positions in this class in other City departments. Responsibilities
Ensure safety of swimmers and enforce regulations at a municipally-operated swimming pool. Maintain discipline around the pool area; conduct rescue operations and provide CPR and First Aid. Conduct swimming, diving, and other aquatic classes; coach swimming teams or aquatic groups as assigned. Coordinate communication with swimmers and the public; clean and disinfect pool, decks, showers, locker rooms, and equipment. Prepare the pool for aquatic programs; write reports and perform related duties as required. Working Conditions
Rescue operations, CPR and First Aid, exposure to water, indoor noise, outdoor work, and exposure to chemicals and mechanical hazards. Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) months (approximately 1,040 hours) of recent verifiable experience as a swimming instructor and/or lifeguard. Lifeguard Training Certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent Water Safety Instruction Certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent Conditions of Employment
New hires must obtain and maintain the following certifications within six months of appointment: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel and Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer. Failure to maintain current certifications may result in termination. All employees must keep current/valid certifications throughout employment. Verification

Training & Experience Examination (weight 100%). Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will receive an online exam link. A passing score is required to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will be used for certification purposes and is valid for 12 months and may be extended. Additional Information
