Join the growing BILH team and make a difference in people's lives. Collaborate with the investigator team to provide research clinical support and care. The Medical Assistant - Research performs activities during participant visits in a research setting, involving interaction with diverse populations including research teams, study participants, medical staff, and personnel. The role works under the direction of research investigators, physicians, and/or nurses to perform clinical activities in accordance with research protocols. Activities requiring licensure are not included. Locations include BIDMC East Campus and Bowdoin Street Health Center. Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Perform research support activities such as vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, monitoring participants, and managing physiologic equipment for data collection. Assist during routine procedures, gather and communicate accurate participant information, perform lab tests, and process specimens. Provide instructions for tests and procedures, schedule follow-ups, and collaborate with RNs on care plans. Maintain competencies as delegated. Ensure participant safety by implementing safety interventions and reporting activities to the RN. Escort participants to ancillary services, support activities as requested, attend trainings, and participate in staff meetings. Perform duties in clinical research areas as needed. Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED. Basic Life Support certification or obtain within 30 days. Basic computer skills and ability to navigate web applications. At least 5 months of direct patient care in clinical or research settings, such as MA, PCT, CNA, or nursing/medical student with clinical rotation. Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Healthcare or related field, MA, EMT, CNA, or LNA certification. Phlebotomy certification. Competencies:
Decision Making, Problem Solving, Independence, Communication, Knowledge, Teamwork, Customer Service – with detailed descriptions. Age-Based Competencies:
Ability to provide patient care to young adults (16-30) and middle-aged adults (30-60). Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, requiring standing and movement. All staff must be vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
