Job Description

The Construction Administrator is responsible for being the primary contact person from PRA during the construction period for one or multiple projects, the firm has designed. This person is responsible for effective communication between the owner and the contractor (or construction manager) during the construction period. The construction administrator works with project teams across all studios and will serve on a variety of project types.

In addition to these duties and the responsibilities below, the construction administrator is responsible for the mitigation or elimination of risk for the firm as they work to identify design and field deficiencies.

Responsibilities (others may be assigned):

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicate with internal and external team members on task assignments
  • Maintain project correspondence including RFI's, e-mails, messages, and all other project related documents
COLLABORATION
  • Attend Owner Architect Contractor (OAC) Meetings as needed and as per the requirements of the design contract
  • Meet with contractors and owners as needed throughout the construction period
  • Answer RFIs submitted by the contractor or owner
  • Coordinate project related communication and information between the owner, the contractor, and any engineers or consultants on the project team
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
  • Coordinate with the project teams to resolve items pertaining to design intent or construction detailing that may come up during design
STANDARDS AND CODES
  • On-site observations of site and the as constructed conditions
  • On-site observations to ensure that the contractor is completing the construction and that it meets the requirements of the construction documents
  • Review project related submittals to ensure that the submittals meet the requirements of the construction documents
  • Review project costs, such as pay applications, proposal requests, and change order requests
  • Process any project related Change Orders
  • Research project and code requirements. Enforce quality control measures that ensure compliance with contract documents, applicable standards, and building code requirements
Job Requirements

Desired Qualifications/Knowledge:
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, or similar degree
  • Minimum of one year experience in the architecture or construction industry
  • Completion of the CSI CCCA (Certified Construction Contract Administrator) Certification preferred. If the candidate does not have this certification, it would be expected that this would be obtained during the first three years of employment in this position
  • Licensure as an Architect in the State of employment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, standards, building codes, and any other related documents
  • Experience with the type of project software used during Construction (e.g., Autodesk, Newforma, and Procore are examples)
  • Willingness to work in a team environment to achieve desired results
  • Ability to prioritize time and tasks to meet project deadlines
  • Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset
  • Listen actively, acknowledge and respond to feedback
  • Ability to Travel between the Office and Client/Project Sites. Valid Drivers License and access to insured vehicle during business hours

Physical Requirements:

May require the ability to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk and manipulate (carry, lift, move) light to medium weight of 10 to 30 pounds. The ability to climb a ladder and use nonstandard stairs may be required. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate technical equipment, read technical information and to analyze complex data, as well as good hearing and speaking abilities to exchange information accurately through emails, on the phone or in person.

Work Environment:

Duties and responsibilities are generally performed in an office setting and at project sites. Work may be required outside of standard business hours as project needs may require meeting attendance or work be performed in evenings or weekends.
