Position Summary
We are seeking a Flight Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and optimize embedded software for satellite systems. This role will play a key part in architecting and implementing the onboard software that powers each spacecraft in a growing constellation. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams—including hardware, integration & test, and mission operations—to ensure robust system-level performance and scalability.
This is a hands-on engineering position where your contributions will shape the reliability, safety, and performance of the spacecraft flight software stack.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement embedded software for satellite subsystems using C/C++
- Collaborate on software architecture, hardware/software interface development, and system integration
- Lead and execute end-to-end testing of software with hardware, including fault management and recovery strategies
- Optimize software performance, reliability, and resilience for real-time operation in orbit
- Document software workflows, integration procedures, and operational behavior
- Coordinate with teams across systems engineering, I&T, and mission operations to ensure seamless spacecraft performance
- Support ongoing improvements to development, testing, and release processes
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in embedded software development with C/C++ on real-time operating systems (RTOS) or aerospace frameworks (e.g., cFS, F’, TASTE)
- Experience testing software in integrated systems, including interface-level and fault scenario validation
- Strong understanding of hardware/software communication protocols (CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet, etc.)
- Solid grasp of embedded systems design, software testing methodologies, and debugging techniques
- Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills across engineering functions
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. lawful permanent residency (Green Card) required under export control regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with satellite operations, autonomy, or fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR)
- Background in aerospace or high-reliability embedded systems
- Hands-on work with satellite flight hardware or spacecraft testbeds
