Job Description
A nationally recognized asbestos litigation law firm has an immediate opening for a legal assistant who will also assist with day-to-day office administrative duties. The position requires a candidate with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant in a mid-sized law firm. The candidate should have experience working with electronic service of documents (PACER, File&Serve, etc.) as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Adobe), including adding electronic signatures to Word/Adobe documents.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 2 years’ experience in a law firm setting as a legal secretary/assistant, with priority given to applicants with office management experience.
- Civil litigation experience in complex litigation preferred.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Must have strong communication skills, with the ability to work well independently, as well as be part of a team.
- Candidate should be able to prioritize tasks and work proactively.
- Must be able to multitask and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Must know Adobe and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook, LexisNexis, and Pacer.
- Commissioned Notary Public for the State of Maryland.
Job Duties:
- Electronic filings.
- Prepare proofs of service.
- Create trial binders.
- Enter billing and complete expense reports for assigned attorneys.
- Prepare share links for voluminous documents.
- Provide back-up support for other secretaries.
- Any other legal secretarial duties requested by the supervising attorney.
- Notarize documents as requested.
- Serve as point person for office coordinator duties, including invoices, supplies, mailings, building maintenance, and any additional duties assigned by the managing partner of the Baltimore office.
Experience:
- Legal Secretary or Legal Assistant: 2 years (Required)
- Office Administration (Preferred)
- Notary (Preferred)
