Overview
Data Science contributes to Cardinal Health within the Data & Analytics Function, which oversees the analytics lifecycle to identify, analyze and present insights that drive business decisions and anticipate opportunities. This function manages analytic data platforms, reporting/BI solutions, and the application of advanced quantitative modeling. At Cardinal Health's AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE), we push the boundaries of healthcare with cutting-edge Data Science and AI to improve patient outcomes, streamline operations, and enhance the healthcare experience. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our team as a thought leader and architect of our AI strategy. You will play a critical role in delivering impactful solutions that drive real-world change. Responsibilities Lead the development of innovative AI solutions: design, implement, and scale sophisticated AI solutions addressing key healthcare business challenges using machine learning, generative AI, and RAG technologies. Develop advanced ML models for forecasting, classification, risk prediction, and other critical applications. Explore and leverage Generative AI (GenAI) technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs) for summarization, generation, classification and extraction. Build robust Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to integrate LLMs with large data repositories, ensuring accurate and relevant outputs. Shape AI strategy: collaborate with stakeholders to translate needs into actionable AI-driven solutions. Act as an AI champion within Cardinal Health, guiding the technology roadmap and aligning with business objectives. Mentor a team of Data Scientists and ML Engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative, innovative environment. Foster an AI-driven culture: promote data-driven decision-making to improve outcomes and patient care.
Qualifications
8-12 years of experience with a minimum of 4 years in data science, with a track record of deploying complex AI/ML solutions (preferred). Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience (preferred). GenAI proficiency: deep understanding of GenAI concepts, including LLMs, RAG technologies, embeddings, prompting techniques, and vector databases. Experience building production-ready GenAI applications involving RAGs, LLMs, vector databases and embeddings. Extensive knowledge of healthcare data (clinical data, patient demographics, claims) and understanding of HIPAA and related regulations (preferred). Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) for data processing, model training, evaluation, monitoring, deployment and support (preferred). Proven ability to lead data science projects, mentor colleagues, and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences (preferred). Proficiency in Python, statistical programming, ML libraries (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), cloud platforms, and data engineering tools (preferred). Experience with CI/CD for ML models and end-to-end ML pipelines (preferred). Familiarity with RESTful API design, software engineering patterns, and security considerations for ML/GenAI (preferred). Experience in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban) and understanding of Agile principles (preferred). Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and security considerations across the development lifecycle (preferred).

Apply advanced knowledge to manage a wide variety of projects and contribute to policy development. Recommend new practices, processes, metrics, or models and lead complex projects of large scope. Provide solutions that may set precedent and independently determine methods for new projects. Receive guidance on overall project objectives and mentor less experienced colleagues.
Anticipated salary range:
