About the role
Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end closing procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of Accountants and Junior Accountants. Senior Accountant duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks.
What You Will Do
- Perform monthly variance (flux) analysis on plant operating results, investigating drivers of material changes in revenue, COGS, operating expenses, and production variances.
- Reconcile plant-level inventory accounts (corn, RNG feedstock, WIP, finished goods, RINs/LCFS credits, etc.) to ensure accuracy of quantities and valuation.
- Prepare and review plant operating reports for management, ensuring alignment with corporate financials.
- Collaborate with plant controllers and operations teams to capture key operational metrics (yields, production volumes, energy usage) and translate them into accurate financial results.
- Prepare and Maintain detailed account reconciliations
- Assist in preparing compliance and regulatory filings related to RNG and ethanol operations
- Document and streamline plant-specific accounting processes, ensuring consistency across Gevo facilities.
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Prepare financial statements according to schedule
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Provide technical support and advice on management accounting
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provide input into the department’s goal setting process
- Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley
- Liaise with Accounting Managerto improve financial procedures
Education/Experience Requirements
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 2-5 years of experience as a Senior Accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience Netsuite preferred
- Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills

The pay range for this role is:
85,000 - 127,000 USD per year (Gevo Corporate)
