Overview
DSHS SCC Security Guard Supervisor/Security Guard 3 role at the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. Location: Lakewood, WA – Program Area 4.
Responsibilities
- Lead Security staff on PIT (Physical Intervention Team) movements when Residents are refusing directives and present a physical threat to themselves or others
- Document employee performance issues, submit annual evaluations as required and issue performance management reports as appropriate or directed
- Serve as the Total Confinement Facility shift security lead for a 10 hour shift, supervising security work activities and making duty assignments under the direction of the on-site supervisor
- Direct and require subordinate staff to wear the proper personal protective equipment to meet the unique emergency situation being addressed
- Supervise and assist with routine security activities such as searches of areas, rooms and persons and control of resident population within the facility
- Enforce no trespass expectations of the state for McNeil Island
- Conduct investigations related to safety and emergency response
- Generate timely and accurate reports
- Supervise Security Guard 2 staff responding to structural and brush fires, while acting subordinate to a Fire Captain
- Physically supervise, perform and train to the required standards
- Other duties as assigned
Who Should Apply
- High school diploma or GED required AND 3 years of experience in one or more of the following roles:
- Security guard
- Correctional officer
- Store investigator
- Police officer or reserve police officer
- Military police
- Other law enforcement positions; or
- 3 years of experience as a Security Guard 1, or 2 years of experience as a Security Guard 2
Experience Substitution
- Completion of a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission
- Certification from a police academy, reserve police academy, or military training program will substitute for one of the three years of required experience
Additional Information
- Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs
- SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use
- Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees
- Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary
