Molecular Technologist Position
Maxmed Healthcare is seeking a Molecular Technologist to provide full-time services at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. The Technologist will: Serves as a Molecular Technologist performing high complexity testing in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Laboratory Department. Experience and training qualifies the Technologist to assume responsibility as a Molecular Technologist. Responsible for conducting high complexity RNA/DNA analysis for the presence of Viruses in biological fluids, tissues, and cultures. Responsible for performing complex qualitative and quantitative analysis of cell surface markers and intracellular antigens in the diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other hematologic malignancies. Technologist manages and ensures compliance with accreditation requirements and Regulatory procedures including JC, CAP, OSHA, and CLIA/CLIP. Implement team goals of standardization and realignment. Performs, evaluates, and Monitors the performance of routine and specialized test procedures in Molecular Biology. Performs and interprets Flow Cytometry analysis of blood samples to support HIV Patient staging, and for diagnosis and follow-up of patients with hematologic and other malignant disease. Performs analysis and studies requiring specialized knowledge and skill in performing and interpreting advanced complex molecular test procedures applied to a clinical setting including nucleic acid extraction. Ability to operate automated instruments and the Flow Cytometer with sufficient proficiency to successfully execute test procedures. Establish normal ranges, and performs comparison and correlation studies on Instruments. Prepares standards, controls, solutions, media and reagents required for testing. Determines suitability of specimens for analysis, requesting new specimens if Determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, insuring physiological properties of the samples are maintained. Performs Primary review of Quality Control and patient results. Identifies unusual or discrepant values and initiates appropriate follow-up procedures to correct problems. Correlates test results with other laboratory findings and patient history to verify results and ensures timely reporting of patient results to requesting physicians. Oversee, develop, support, and maintain a comprehensive internal Quality Control Performance Improvement program for all procedures, reagents, and equipment and acts as a key operator for assigned equipment and maintains required documentation in Compliance with regulatory agencies (e.g., CAP, JC) to ensure technical and scientific accuracy of tests and procedures performed. Evaluates the validity of quality assurance data by generating and reviewing statistical and specimen data using Levy-Jennings graphs, quality control logs, patient results and pending test list. Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient. Transport all specimen samples to the appropriate laboratory sections. Centrifuge blood samples. Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status. Practice Infection Control standards always when working with patients and Equipment. Practice OSHA and Personal Protective Equipment Standards. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Degree: Bachelor of Science Degree from Accredited 4-year College or University. Certifications Basic Life Support Certification/Registration as a Molecular Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (MT-ASCP) or Current certification and registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Medical Technologist (MT-AMT). Experience Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the health care worker's communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.
