The Opportunity with McKinstry
Were looking for a skilled, detail-oriented
Sheet Metal Estimator
to join our team. Youll support sales, engineering, and operations by developing accurate estimates for mechanical construction projects across the country. The ideal candidate understands mechanical systems, communicates well, and can manage estimating software and databases. Youll work on large-scale, complex projects in industries like commercial, data centers, life sciences, technology, industrial, and pharmaceutical, with project sizes ranging from $50K to $100M+. Join a collaborative, precise, and technically strong team where youll help deliver competitive, accurate estimates. Key Responsibilities
Develop project cost estimates based on schematic and/or detailed designs. Perform complete ductwork takeoffs using Autobid Sheet Metal software. Maintain and operate all aspects of the Autobid Sheet Metal software, including takeoff applications and material/labor databases. Count dry-side equipment and specialties and enter data into estimates. Review subcontractor and vendor quotes and compile job-specific clarifications and exclusions. Develop initial budgets and estimates with or without engineering drawings or specifications. Maintain current and historical construction costs and bid result databases. Collaborate with engineering, sales, and business development teams to influence design and identify project risks. Assist in the development of RFPs for subcontractors and vendors. Participate in discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, and internal stakeholders. Coach and mentor junior estimators and delegate responsibilities effectively. Communicate project details clearly across teams and ensure alignment with project goals.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or equivalent work experience preferred. Minimum of 4 years of experience in estimating. Proficiency in Autobid Sheet Metal estimating software and database management. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems & SMACNA labor tables. Experience with design-build and design-assist projects. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook; Bluebeam experience preferred. Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Assemble is a plus. Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

The pay range for this position is $75,870 - $128,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
