About the Role: Apprentice Teacher

The Apprentice Teacher position is a fantastic opportunity for passionate individuals looking to explore the field of education. Whether you have limited or no teaching experience, this role offers hands-on practice and essential training to help you become a successful full-time classroom teacher. You will:

  • Observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced educators.
  • Co-teach with teacher-leaders and provide in-house substitute coverage.
  • Support teachers with tutoring, grading, and small group instruction.
  • Potentially teach your own class, gaining invaluable direct teaching experience.
  • Engage in various activities, including teaching Enrichment classes and organizing student events.

Through full participation in professional development and regular meetings with an instructional coach, you will gain the skills and support necessary to thrive in the classroom. By the end of the year, you will be a strong candidate for a full-time teaching position!

Your Responsibilities
  • Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders.
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed.
  • Plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility.
  • Support students through one-on-one and small group tutoring.
  • Observe Master Teachers to enhance your instructional techniques.
  • Assist with assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
Qualifications We’re Looking For
  • A passion for improving the lives of students both in and out of the classroom.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and possess a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Hard-working, energetic, and eager to learn and adapt.
  • Reflective and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in schools or urban communities is a plus, but not required.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required by the start of employment.
