Komodo Health
Overview
Applied AI Engineer role at Komodo Health. Komodo Health builds the Healthcare Map and AI-native solutions to reduce the global burden of disease. We seek engineers who treat AI as a product, owning the full lifecycle from rapid prototyping to scalable deployment, with a strong focus on delivering value and integration across the product ecosystem. The Opportunity At Komodo Health
Komodo Health transforms healthcare analytics. Our AI team, Labs@Komodo, delivers AI-native solutions that elevate products and the way we build them. This role targets engineers who thrive in fast iteration cycles, moving quickly from idea to working prototype, and who apply engineering discipline to scale what works. You will accelerate external innovation while reshaping internal systems and workflows. What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Design and deliver AI-native products and tools that solve real healthcare challenges and optimize internal workflows. Extend AI features across the full stack to ensure production-ready AI capabilities integrated into Komodo’s platform. Drive the full product lifecycle by gathering requirements, translating them into designs, and delivering features that connect AI systems to customer and business value. Prototype rapidly using GenAI models, chaining techniques, and orchestration frameworks to test ideas within days. Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to identify AI leverage points across workflows. Research and apply state-of-the-art AI techniques (LLMs, agent-based systems, generative models) to structured and unstructured data. Build internal systems that enhance developer productivity (e.g., agents for code review, documentation generation, prompt libraries). Transition successful prototypes into robust, scalable systems with emphasis on reproducibility, observability, and maintainability. Continuously explore emerging models and toolchains (e.g., Gemini, GPT, Claude, open-source agents) and apply them where practical. What You Bring To Komodo Health (Qualifications)
A track record of building AI-powered systems that move rapidly from prototype to production. Strong proficiency with LLMs, prompt engineering, context engineering, agent orchestration, and multi-agent systems. Fluency in Python with hands-on experience in GenAI frameworks (Chat Completions API, vLLM, Crew AI, Strands, etc.). Full-stack engineering capability across modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue) and back-end (FastAPI, Django, Flask) to design APIs and interfaces for AI features. End-to-end product ownership: translating customer or business needs into requirements and delivering full-stack features that realize AI value. Deep understanding of AI/ML fundamentals with applied experience solving real-world problems using an AI-first approach. Ability to build quick demos, debug AI behavior, and translate ideas into functional agent workflows or model pipelines. Engineering discipline to test, refactor, and scale systems with reliability, observability, and maintainability in mind. System-builder mindset: motivated to craft internal AI tools and deliver customer-facing solutions. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across technical teams and influence non-technical stakeholders. Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. Expectations Of AI Use In This Role (required)
This role is AI-native by design; you are expected to apply GenAI, agent-based workflows, and cutting-edge models as your default problem-solving toolkit. Automate workflows using tools like Gemini, GPT, Claude, and internal agents; drive experimentation and adoption of new AI techniques within your team and across Komodo. Think in systems: design prompt chains, orchestration logic, and fine-tuning loops for scalable solutions. Additional Skills (nice to have)
Experience with healthcare data modalities (claims, EHR, genomic data). Experience with distributed computing frameworks (Spark, Snowflake, Databricks) for large-scale data processing. Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual base pay varies by location, with regional ranges shown below. Komodo considers factors such as skills, experience, location, and market demands. Eligible for performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, life and disability insurance, and paid time off. Benefits may vary by location and role. Base pay ranges San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $155,000—$253,000 USD All Other US Locations: $135,000—$220,000 USD Location and Work Model
Komodo Health has a hybrid work model. Roles may be remote, remote within a region, or local to hubs in San Francisco, New York City, or Chicago with remote options. Equal Opportunity
Komodo Health provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by law.
