Transit Service Supervisor
The Transit Service Supervisor plans, directs, monitors and controls the operations activities required to ensure that efficient, safe and dependable bus service is provided to all Long Beach Transit (LBT) customers. The Transit Service Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of bus operators. Responsibilities include: Scheduling employees and equipment to facilitate effective and efficient delivery of service Communicating effectively and efficiently with all LBT operators, supervisors, transit police and support vehicles via radio Initiating action to resolve problems related to service delivery and disciplinary action Supervising up to 25 bus operators as group supervisor Evaluating bus operator performance and providing coaching, feedback and discipline; demonstrating exemplary leadership Appraising service delivery, assessing stops, equipment, routes and schedules for deficiencies and making effective plans and recommendations to improve service delivery Establishing bus changes; setting detours and communicating changes to those involved Deciding daily on any deviations from service or additional service required based on immediate and/or changing conditions Assuming command role at the scene of accidents; investigating accidents and reporting findings to LBT's Safety Officer Responding to customers and disruptions which are beyond the operator's scope or ability to resolve Administering the labor agreement and being knowledgeable in labor relations Developing work plans and scheduling extra-board operators to efficiently meet service requirements Evaluating system operations and making effective recommendations for the delivery of service, training and the development of Transit Service Delivery (TSD) department procedures Planning major agency operations events, training, and scheduling operators Reporting minor problems which may occur with the computer software applications used in operations including HASTUS, Ellipse and the Advanced Communication System (ACS) programs used by the department Providing a leadership role in the development of computer-generated projects for the TSD and participating in the selection and testing of systems and software that will be used in TSD Providing intra and inter-department advice and recommendations on LBT programs and special projects Taking action to correct and/or report unsafe conditions or actions to the Safety Officer; ensuring that personal protective equipment is worn when necessary; investigating and reporting all accidents and incidents, and issuing warnings per disciplinary procedures for violations of LBT health and safety procedures Other duties may be assigned Qualifications include: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy Ability to work independently and in a team environment Must be able to process information and make quick decisions Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects Strong decision-making and innovative problem-solving skills Demonstrate considerable initiative Proactive and achievement driven with a strong work ethic Excellent collaboration skills with both internal and external clients Ability to coach, motivate and develop employees Must have excellent communications skills and be able to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of LBT management personnel, customers, and others as required Leadership and supervisory skills necessary Working knowledge of transit operations software including communication (radio) system software applications and operation (Motorola or equivalent), HASTUS and operator management and bidding/scheduling software applications or any combination of ITS software applications, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel Must possess a valid Commercial California Driver's License and safe driving record Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite programs: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
