JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for operationalizing the organization's core values by promoting patient and family-centered care. The Nurse Manager has twenty-four-hour accountability for patient triage, transfers, and overall management of the Labor and Delivery unit.
Collaborates with the Director of Maternal Child Health and the NICU Clinical Nurse Educator in strategic planning for the operational needs of the NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Mother Baby units. Provides supervision, clinical expertise, mentoring, and role modeling to nursing staff. Conducts annual performance evaluations. Acts as an expert clinical resource for neonatal care, including the management of acutely ill neonates. Supervises and evaluates patient care through audits and observations. Conducts daily rounds on all assigned units, including NICU inpatients, and communicates findings with Neonatologists and staff. Participates in accreditation processes with JCAHO and other agencies, ensuring safety and legal compliance, especially for NICU and Maternal Child Health. Provides clinical support for the Division of Neonatology in collaboration with the Chair of Pediatrics and the Neonatal ICU Medical Director. Monitors inpatient care and communicates with referring physicians and hospitals regarding NICU patients and transfers. Works with leadership to identify clinical care delivery and quality metrics. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in nursing and at least 5 years of clinical experience in a level 3 NICU, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Nursing. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Current license to practice Nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. BLS & NRP certifications are required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to work independently and take initiative. Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying, analyzing, and resolving issues.
