Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator is responsible for managing all aspects of the estimating process for complex design-build projects across both public and private sectors. This role involves close collaboration with design teams, project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure competitive, accurate, and timely proposals. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in preconstruction, a deep understanding of construction means and methods, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Lead the development of conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates throughout all project phases. Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare comprehensive cost estimates. Work with the design team to evaluate constructability, identify cost-saving opportunities, and manage design-to-budget efforts. Solicit and review subcontractor and supplier bids; perform scope and pricing evaluations. Manage estimating timelines and ensure all deliverables are completed with accuracy and on schedule. Prepare bid proposals for public and private sector clients, ensuring compliance with applicable RFP/RFQ requirements. Present and defend estimates during internal and client-facing meetings. Track historical cost data and maintain up-to-date pricing databases and unit cost information. Collaborate with project managers and field teams during hand-off to ensure alignment on scope, budget, and schedule. Mentor junior estimators and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating procedures and systems. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent work experience). Minimum 7-10 years of experience in estimating, preferably within a design-build general contractor environment. Proven track record working on both public and private sector projects across a range of building types. In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, market trends, and codes/regulations. Strong proficiency in estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff) and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines with precision. Strong team orientation with a collaborative mindset. Preferred Qualifications: LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable design. Experience with integrated project delivery (IPD) or collaborative project environments. Familiarity with local subcontractor markets and pricing trends.
