Black & Veatch is seeking a dynamic, experienced Cloud Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team delivering secure, resilient, and scalable cloud solutions. This hands-on leadership role blends strategic vision with technical expertise, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and operational excellence across multi-cloud environments. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our cloud strategy, developing talent, and driving impactful business outcomes. Black & Veatch's Business Enablement consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services. Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy Lead, mentor, and grow a team of cloud engineers, advancing overall capabilities and effectiveness. Develop and execute cloud strategy aligned with business and technology objectives. Accountability for cloud lifecycle management planning, design, oversight, automation, and optimization. Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on cloud capabilities, risks, and opportunities. Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to identify cloud priorities and deliver impactful solutions. Translate business goals into cloud strategies that drive measurable outcomes in agility, cost efficiency, and innovation. Drive and mature cost optimization practices (FinOps) Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure the Cloud program remains current and effective. Cloud Architecture & Engineering Lead cross-functional cloud steering committees and working groups to align cloud initiatives with enterprise priorities. Design, deploy, and maintain secure, resilient cloud infrastructure, primarily in Azure and AWS. Establish and enforce enterprise-wide cloud governance frameworks, policies, and compliance standards. Lead cloud lifecycle planning, modernization, and migration efforts. Integrate cloud services with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration tools. Champion automation-first practices for provisioning, deployment, and monitoring to reduce time to market and improve resilience. Document technical environments, processes, procedures, and project plans. Operations & Compliance Oversee cloud security, compliance, and BCDR planning in partnership with the cybersecurity architecture and DR teams. Implement identity management policies and access controls, integrating with enterprise systems. Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for cloud operations, cost, security, performance, and ensure high availability. Provide oversight of managed service providers to ensure reliable cloud operations. Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks (e.g. NIST). Collaboration & Communication Partner with cross-functional teams including software engineering, cybersecurity, architecture, data, and IT operations. Identify and mitigate risks associated with cloud adoption, including regulatory, operational, and financial risks. Communicate technical solutions clearly to stakeholders and leadership, including presenting business cases, risks, and solution options. Provide training and support on cloud best practices. Management Responsibilities Supervise team members, including hiring, and performance management. Delegate resources effectively and manage multiple concurrent projects. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 8+ years of cloud experience, including 2+ years in a direct leadership role. Senior-level expertise in Azure and AWS. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex systems. Demonstrated success in leading complex migration programs and cross-functional initiatives. Experience with ITIL processes and tools such as ServiceNow. Experience with systems administration. Strong understanding of networking, security protocols, and cloud compliance. Hands-on experience with cloud architecture, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerization, and orchestration tools (e.g. Github, Azure DevOps, AKS) Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., ELK, Azure Monitor, New Relic) Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies. Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost optimization tools. Experience as a leader or a member of a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE). Experience managing cloud-hosted VDI (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop). Experience with OCI and GCP. Experience with SSO and Identity Federation services (e.g. Entra ID) Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Microsoft AZ-104, Certified Cloud Governance Specialist, AWS/Azure Cloud Strategist, and/or The Open Group Architecture Framework 'TOGAF' Black & Veatch is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
