Do you have experience driving a transit or school bus? Do you have excellent customer service experience? Apply to drive for The Ohio State University's Campus Area Bus Service (CABS). Meet other Buckeyes while driving the future on Ohio State's Columbus Campus. This position is responsible for operation of 15-53 passenger buses, vans and shuttles to move staff/faculty/student in and around our campus and medical center 7 days a week. Washes, cleans, fuels, and performs daily safety inspection of vehicles; prepares vehicles for trips; drives routes, loads and unloads luggage and equipment. Performs duties as required to ensure a safe and smooth trip. Documents activities and maintains required logs; completes reports, reports mechanical and safety deficiencies of vehicles; attends training sessions and seminars as assigned. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor. Pay range is 20.10 to 24.50/hour with opportunities for shift differential. Full time bus operators bid on shifts by seniority several times a year. Work a fixed 40-hour work week with the potential overtime available during the week and weekend. Required Qualifications: Must possess and maintain Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements. Routinely pass medical, drug, and alcohol screenings. Ability to work in a diverse environment desired. Hours and days may vary, and you may work evenings, weekends, and special events. Requires successful completion of FBI/BCI Medical Center background check. In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position has been designated as an essential position whose presence is required regardless of the existence of an emergency condition. Desired Qualifications: Professional Driving Experience 13 years of experience operating large vehicles, especially transit buses, is often preferred. Experience on urban or high-traffic routes is especially valued due to the complexity and pace of city driving. Customer Service Background Proven ability to interact professionally with the public, including handling complaints or difficult passengers with patience and empathy. Experience assisting passengers with disabilities or special needs is a plus. Safety and Compliance Demonstrated history of safe driving, with a clean driving record and no major violations. Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations, including pre-trip inspections and reporting mechanical issues. Schedule Adherence and Reliability Experience maintaining on-time performance and following strict schedules. Ability to manage time effectively and adapt to traffic or route changes.
