Social Worker (Telehealth) – Indian Health Service

The Social Worker position will be under the Great Plains Area Office, Division of Behavioral Health, Telehealth Program. Incumbents will provide initial clinical assessments, treatment review and planning, and engage individual and group therapy interventions as part of patient services. Incumbents will also provide emergency department safety assessments and crisis care coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize evidence-based practices and culturally sensitive models to provide assessments during behavioral health crises. Develop plans with individuals, families, and groups, including special populations such as physically or mentally challenged individuals and blended families during crises.
  • Provide indicated brief interventions and crisis stabilization for clients presenting with behavioral health crises for patients and families.
  • Follow established standards in assessment, safety planning, treatment, and follow-up. Use SOAP notes and document treatment plans in accordance with behavioral health policies and entities such as CMS and The Joint Commission. Document in Electronic Health Records.
  • Provide independent professional decisions and recommendations for patient continuity of care by arranging structured placements for acute and chronic patients in psychiatric facilities, transitional residencies, group homes, or other secure units as appropriate.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

Qualifications

Basic Requirement(s)

  • Master’s degree or higher in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited program

Minimum Qualifications

GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 in Federal service (case management for inpatients/outpatients, health education, mental status evaluation, etc.) OR three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. OR a combination of education and experience meeting the requirements.

Selective Placement Factor

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent in any state or territory. Please provide a copy of your license with your application.
