Bookkeeper
The employee will perform a wide variety of tasks including oversight of accounting records, accurately recording all payables and receivables as well as handling cash bond and purge transactions. Under the supervision of the Fiscal Manager, the bookkeeper will perform a wide variety of tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, inventory, invoicing, processing and reconciling credit card statements, unclaimed property and special projects as assigned. Tasks include: balancing cash receipts; preparing special revenue checks; processing travel reimbursements; processing accounts payable checks; managing operating funds; verifying and authorizing payables; ensuring compliance with audit samples; allocating forfeiture funds; supporting related entities; assuring adequate control of agency assets; completing assignments as directed; maintaining work areas; knowledge of general orders; completing, updating, submitting required reports/documents/forms; providing back-up within the bureau; generating reports; receiving, routing, and dispersing telephone calls/messages; composing and typing correspondence, reports, and other materials; sorting and distributing mail; maintaining confidential files; maintaining and updating files/reports/documentation; organizing and assembling requested information; and completing special projects. Minimum requirements include: a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of related experience, the term "experience" refers to active full-time employment, either in the same position, or directly related to the position applied for. The experience must have occurred within the three (3) years prior to application with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Ability to work independently, be computer proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience preferred, possess excellent mathematical and analytical skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
