City Of Allen Swim School Instructor
HIRING RATE: $12.70 Hourly FULL SALARY RANGE: $12.70 - $15.56 Hourly The City of Allen is a dynamic and welcoming community with over 100,000 residents. Other duties may include providing customer service and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Assists in conducting swim lessons by helping to instruct courses for all age groups and leading and conducting preschool classes. Responsible for the safety and well-being of participants in their care. Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Experience: Less than a High School Diploma or equivalent with no prior work experience. Special Requirements: Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification required or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire. Work Schedule: School Year: Most swim lessons are Tuesdays and Thursdays (4 pm - 8:15 pm) and Saturdays (8 am - 1 pm). Summer: Most swim lessons are Monday - Thursday mornings (8 am - 1 pm) and evenings (6 pm - 8:45 pm). Knowledge of: City policies and procedures. Current swimming instructional techniques. A variety of swimming strokes: including Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke, Sidestroke, and Elementary Backstroke. Occupational hazards and safety procedures. Skill in: Establishing and maintaining working relationships with professional and support staff, the public, and City employees. Teaching swimming techniques. Providing outstanding customer service and conflict resolution. Identifying opportunities to improve customer service and satisfaction. Working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities. Effectively communicating orally. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Ability to work varying shifts including mornings, evenings, and weekends. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to frequently swim, walk, and sit when leading various activities. Ability to stand and walk for long periods. Ability to lift, push, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, and balance frequently. Ability to lift 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
