Job Title: Tax Assessor-Collector

Processes motor vehicle renewals. Processes disabled persons' applications. Processes motor vehicle transfers. Issues license plates, including specialty plates and dealer plates. Receives and processes property tax payments. Processes refunds. Serves as Passport Agent as needed. Receives and processes special taxes, including VIT, Hotel/Motel tax, and liquor license renewals. Balances the cashbox daily. Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Knowledge of cash management principles. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the provision of customer services. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Must have at least one (1) year of work experience. Must be able to type at least 30 wpm. Supplemental Information
Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of related technical and customer service duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties related to the collection of taxes. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations. Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally: Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions. Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business. Working in small and/or enclosed spaces. Constantly: Communicating with others to exchange information. Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Working in noisy environments. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Other Requirements/Information: Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license. The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required. This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies. Valid Texas Driver's License* *If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.
