Customer Service Representative

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services. This position is with the Office of Retirement Services (ORS) area of DTMB. We are looking for a person who understands the value of public service and wants to help us meet the needs of our citizens. Above all, we are looking for someone that is passionate about customer service and being a leader. This person needs to be an excellent communicator, meaning you can effectively give oral and written reports, and prepare clear and concise documentation both verbally and electronically. Needs to have a team-oriented mindset, able to embrace diversity and be capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of professionals. Must be organized, with good time management skills and know the importance of a timeline. We want someone who is reliable, honest and who keeps their commitments to colleagues and clients. We need someone who can seek effective solutions to help resolve problems in a timely manner. Provide complete customer service to Office of Retirement Service (ORS) customers by accurately responding to customer inquiries received via phone calls in a call center environment, request forms, application documents, written correspondence or by personal visit to our office. Determine customer eligibility for billings, pension, health and death benefits. Provide pension/survivor estimates and process/authorize benefits and enrollment information for our customers. The office location is Lansing, MI. The State of Michigan is not able to offer employment to out of-state applicants that do not plan to relocate. The Department of Technology Management and Budget currently offers a hybrid work option which requires two days working on-site at the official work location and three days of remote work per week. Education typically acquired through completion of high school. One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service. OR One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service. OR One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service. OR One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. OR Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service. OR possession of a Bachelor's degree in any major.
