Patient Access Representative
Performs patient access and registration duties through system applications, answer phones, pre-register patients for upcoming admissions, verifies patient demographics and insurance coverage via EEM system and functions as a liaison to Patient Accounting. May perform duties related to cash collection. Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills. Adhere to HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements. May act as patient's first point of contact. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Provide excellent customer service in all patient communication with the goal of providing accurate and timely registration educating and providing service and support as the first point of contact for MedStar St. Mary's Hospital. Timely and accurately follows the registration process and maintain an error rate of less than two (2) percent. Creates encounters and obtain patient information for requested services as directed by the clinical department and location of services. Calls patients to complete the Pre-registration encounter for upcoming services and maintain appropriate work lists to insure all information is obtained prior to service. If required to complete registration call physicians and other entities for additional information. Compliance, 100% with all MedStar St. Mary's rules and regulations with arm banding, two patient identifiers, patient and document hand-off procedures, as well patient interaction and communication as directed and specified by service location. Proficient in all Patient Registration applications to include FirstNet, using the quick reg. tool as well as completing the registration. Follow established workflow process through signature handoff, to include update registration with changes in patient information, authorization, and referral information and obtains accurate insurance information by copying insurance cards. Must be knowledgeable of all Patient registration procedures including down-time procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned and maintains requirements of career ladder. Additional Lead Duties/Responsibilities: Acts a supervisory designee, when required, and in the absence of Director of Patient Access/Security Serves as point of contact for Registration associates for all inquiries, conflicts, and schedule changes in the absence of Director of Patient Access/Security. Helps to establish and manage a work environment that is conducive to productive performance and responds to daily needs of the department. Maintains and manages multiple Patient Registration metrics/daily reports in conjunction with Director of Patient Access/Security Provides staff orientation, mentoring, and training to new department employees. Minimum Qualifications
Education High School Diploma or GED required Experience Previous experience in a hospital registration department preferred Licenses and Certifications CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate CHAA certification within 1 Year required This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
