Material Coordinator 3
The Material Coordinator 3 plays a critical, hands-on role within Illumina's San Diego Distribution team, responsible for executing a broad range of material handling, inventory, and logistics tasks to support the global movement of temperature-sensitive biotech products. This role requires strong operational knowledge and a proactive mindset, with an emphasis on cross-training and flexibility across multiple departments including Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, and Customer Support. The ideal candidate will be able to move seamlessly between functions, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and support continuous improvement efforts. Key Responsibilities: Perform intermediate to advanced picking, packing, and shipping for domestic and international orders with adherence to quality and regulatory standards. Execute accurate material transactions in SAP or equivalent ERP systems. Support cycle counting, inventory accuracy, and discrepancy resolution in coordination with Inventory Control. Maintain strong proficiency in systems such as SAP, UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, and internal tracking tools. Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, and Planning to ensure timely fulfillment and inventory flow. Work in multiple areas of the distribution process (receiving, shipping, inventory control, kitting, etc.) with the ability to cross-cover roles as needed. Support and participate in cross-training programs; maintain certifications and training across key workflows. Assist in maintaining cold chain handling and temperature-sensitive packaging protocols. Contribute to process documentation, SOP reviews, and minor improvements under guidance from senior team members. Uphold a clean, safe, and organized work environment aligned with GMP, ISO, DOT, and IATA standards. Serve as a point of contact for routine questions from less experienced staff and assist with peer training as needed. Take ownership of assigned metrics or areas (e.g., kitting, shipping accuracy, packaging audits). Minimum Qualifications: 3+ years of warehouse, logistics, or material handling experience, preferably in life sciences or biotech. Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems for transactions and inventory movement. Demonstrated ability to work in multiple functions within a distribution or manufacturing environment. Experience handling temperature-sensitive or regulated products is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of GMP, ISO, and inventory control principles. Ability to operate standard warehouse equipment and lift up to 50 lbs. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word). Willingness to work overtime based on business needs. Preferred Qualifications: Cross-functional experience in areas such as receiving, kitting, inventory, or cold chain shipping. Previous exposure to hazardous materials or dangerous goods shipping. Training or informal mentoring experience. Familiarity with LEAN or other continuous improvement methodologies. Why Join Us?
