Golf Course Attendant

The City of Madison Parks Division is hiring Golf Course Attendants for the 2025 season. These positions play a key role in ensuring high quality customer service and guest experiences and in providing enjoyable golf experiences for customers and visitors of the Golf Program. These positions are responsible for supporting facilities operation and custodial or manual labor work in maintenance, with a focus on customer care and satisfaction in all tasks performed at the City golf courses. Employees are responsible for readying the clubhouse and related amenities for operation, including opening and closing, performing all custodial duties, collecting fees, and accurately recording sales into the Point of Sale (POS) system. Duties may also include performing basic landscaping services and building maintenance activities, working under the direct leadership of the Assistant Golf Professionals or a Golf Course Superintendent, and the general supervision of the Golf Clubhouse Operations Supervisor. Hours: This position will work approximately 0-40 hours per week and will include weekdays, weekends, daytime shifts, and holidays. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on the schedule of events, programs, activities and weather conditions. Work Locations: Positions are available at The Glen Golf Park (3747 Speedway Road), Monona Golf Course (111 East Dean Avenue), Odana Hills Golf Course (4635 Odana Road), and Yahara Hills Golf Course (7051 Millpond Road) Applications will be accepted until the closing date. However, the selection process will begin prior to the closing date based upon the needs of the Golf Program. This recruitment will be used to fill other vacancies in this classification that may arise over the next six (6) months. Customer Service Greet customers. Answer and direct phone calls. Respond to requests regarding facility information, including making tee time reservations. Communicate positively and effectively. Enforce Golf and City policies. Proactively and positively monitor pace of play and take corrective action, as required, when working as a starter or course ranger. Report all incidents to an Assistant Golf Professional or Clubhouse Operations Supervisor. Facilities Operations Collect golf-related fees and record accurately. Register new season and discount passholders. Open and close facilities. Pick driving range using mechanical picker. Clean and stock balls and baskets. Clean, gas, and inspect golf cart fleet. Ensure orderly appearance and readiness of fleet throughout the day and at closing. Reconcile start and end-of-day counts of inventory and sales. Control fast-paced environment consistently and efficiently. Report all areas or items that need repair to immediate supervisor. Assist in league, tournament, and event operations. Assist in set-up, implementation, and tear-down of all related activities. Mow greens, tees, fairways, and roughs using a variety of mowers (push mowers, rotary mowers, reel mowers, etc.). Rake sand traps, change cups, and maintain trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers. Custodial Duties Maintain clubhouse and outside areas, including parking lots, seating areas, storage areas, restrooms, and public spaces within the clubhouse. Sweep, blow, mop, disinfect, hose off surfaces as needed to ensure cleanliness and neat appearance of all areas of responsibility. Empty trash, pick up litter, and separate refuse and recycling. Perform general beautification of the golf course using common handheld tools (string trimmer, leaf blower, etc.). Pull weeds as needed. Perform other related work as required. Minimum Qualifications All applicants will be considered for these positions. Depending on the number of qualified applicants, random selection may be used to determine who will proceed to the interview process. Maintenance Attendants are required to wear industry-approved safety shoes (steel-toed boots) and are eligible for reimbursement of up to $200.00 toward the purchase price after the successful completion of 30 days of employment. Attendants must be 18 years of age or older to work inside a Clubhouse and may be required to obtain an operator's license (bartender's license). Selected candidates under 18 years of age will be assigned to outside areas. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 35 pounds. Ability to reach, squat, twist, and lift. Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. Ability to work on uneven terrain. Ability to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to pollen, dust, grass clippings, fertilizers, etc. Ability to operate golf carts.
