Work in a modern, patient-centered facility Be part of a collaborative and supportive team Competitive compensation and benefits The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday - four 10 hour shifts Job Summary: Under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse, participates as a member of the OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center team in planning, preparing, and implementing safe and effective patient care while enhancing the OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center experience for patients undergoing surgery. Qualifications and Education: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred. Qualifications: Current Medical Assistant certification required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant or experience in a healthcare environment. Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to learn new computer software on the job. Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology required. Current certification in basic life support (BLS) required, or the ability to obtain before working independently with patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrates expertise in the execution the duties and responsibilities of a Medical Assistant. Assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the Operative Suites and Sterile Stores areas. Prepares and checks assigned cases for appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for procedures. Follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting up cases, scrubbing, gowning, and draping as observed. Reports any break in aseptic technique. Assists anesthesia team with daily task such as turnover of cases, restocking supplies, preparing block kits and drawing block medications, assisting with positioning patients and having medications/ultrasound ready for nerve block. Helps to perform daily safety checks on anesthesia machines and provides support for basic airway management as needed (assisting with supplies, holding oxygen mask, etc.). Facilitates efficient room turnover. Participates in preference cards updates as documented and observed. Ability to perform hand scrub. Assists with application of dressings and transfers patient. Assists with general cleaning of room and sets up next case as observed.
