The Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for public and private sector construction projects. This role involves reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, obtaining subcontractor and supplier quotes, and preparing competitive bid proposals
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for all construction trades using PlanSwift.
- Use PlanHub to locate, track, and manage bid opportunities.
- Utilize RSMeans for labor, material, and equipment cost data to ensure accuracy.
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Prepare complete bid proposals, including scope sheets, clarifications, and exclusions.
- Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to confirm constructability and value engineering options.
- Maintain and update historical cost data for future estimating.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Track bid results and provide feedback for future improvements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in construction estimating (or equivalent construction field experience).
- Proficiency in PlanSwift, PlanHub, and RSMeans is required.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other estimating tools.
- Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with public sector bidding processes.
- Familiarity with Texas procurement laws and prevailing wage requirements.
- Multi-trade estimating experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to visit construction sites, including climbing ladders and walking on uneven surfaces.
- Extended periods of computer work.
