Library Services Temporary Student Special Worker
The County of Volusia is seeking Student Special Workers for the Library Services Division. Depending on availability, positions may be located on the East Side (Daytona, Ormond, New Smyrna, Port Orange, or Edgewater) or West Side (DeLand, Lake Helen, Orange City, Deltona, or Debary) of Florida, and will be responsible for shelving library materials, checking books in and out, and assisting with general library clerical duties. Candidate must be an active high school or college student. Note: These positions are temporary part time - 10 hours per week. Illustrative duties include performing library functions such as charging/discharging library items, material retrieval, shelving library materials, shelf reading (keeping items in order on the shelves), searching for reserved or overdue materials, etc. May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum requirements include being an active high school or college student, at least 16 years of age. Note: College/University student must be currently enrolled full-time (Spring semester
minimum 12 credit hours or Summer semester - minimum 9 credit hours). Must pass required background check. Depending on assignment: Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of appointment and maintain thereafter. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of basic techniques including shelving numerical sorting, and alphabetization; knowledge of basic computer skills; knowledge of basic customer service skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, volunteers, and the public; ability to work under stressful conditions; ability to interact effectively with others; must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
