Hiring Range: $15.96 - $19.95 hourly Work Schedule: Shifts vary, must be able to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, weekends, midday, and evening shifts. Nature of Work: As a member of the Aquatics Division, individuals in this position are responsible for instructing, supervising and testing children and adults in Windsor's learn-to-swim lesson programs. This position also helps organize and control classes under the direction of Lead Guard, Managers, and the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics. Part-time Swim Lesson Instructors may work at both the indoor or outdoor pool. The outdoor pool may be open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Individuals in this position are required to perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the town's PRIDE philosophy and the town's Equal Opportunity Employment policy. Supervision Received: Individuals may work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Lead Guard, Pool Manager, and/or the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances. Supervision/Leadership Exercised: No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised. Essential Job Functions: The individual in the Swim Lesson Instructor role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive: Enhance Windsor's Parks, Recreation & Culture image by working with Swim Lesson Instructors to ensure quality instruction for participants are being performed in the learn-to-swim program. Ensure the safety of all participants in their swimming classes by safe and proper usage of equipment. Operate the CRC water slide and assure the safety of pool patrons. Communicates effectively with patrons. Assists with pool operations and regular safety inspections of pools, slides, and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to the patrons. Arrives to work promptly and prepared for each shift. Disseminate and promote Parks, Recreation & Culture program information and educate users of potential opportunities and services available. Assists in facilitating emergency action procedures for the aquatic and facility areas. Demonstrates safe work habits with awareness of co-worker and public safety. Handles various reports and records such as incident reports, etc. Assists other aquatic staff members as needed. Maintain the cleanliness of the aquatic facility daily. Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to. Performs related work as required and assigned. Utilize the online scheduling application for access to work schedule and requesting time off. Other Duties: Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following: Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town. Assists other town departments/divisions, as necessary. Education, Experience and Formal Training: Must be at least 15 years of age. Previous experience in lifeguarding and/or teaching swim lessons preferred, but not required. Licenses or Certificates: Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire. Must be able to complete the Town of Windsor's Swim Lesson Training class and one complete session of co-teaching with a current instructor. Current Water Safety Instructor (American Red Cross) certification may be used as a supplement certification. Each WSI will be asked to complete the Town of Windsor's Swim Lesson training and complete one session of co-teaching. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department/division. Knowledge of the Town of Windsor Aquatics Handbook. Knowledge of blood borne pathogens and how to properly dispose of them. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations. Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods. Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Materials and Equipment Used: Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following: Position requires use of a variety of equipment: computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones. Swimming toys, water aids, Rescue tubes, first aid equipment, personal protective equipment, and Automatic External Defibrillators. Position requires use of a variety of potentially hazardous chemicals for cleaning purposes and to maintain proper water chemistry. Working Environment & Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions; may be subject to extreme heat: temperatures to above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Subject to noise. The employee may be subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
