About Lakewood Heritage, Culture and the Arts The Heritage, Culture and the Arts (HCA) Division includes Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park (HLBP) Lakewood Cultural Center (LCC) and Washington Heights Arts Center (WHAC). Job Summary This position is primarily assigned to the Lakewood Cultural Center, potential assignments occasionally required or offered at the other two facilities. The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) serves as the initial point of contact for the at facilities and assists patrons with a variety of services. The VSA performs a variety of primarily administrative tasks with City vision and values to provide excellent experiences for our citizens and other patrons. The successful candidate will have a record of success with customer service and minimum one-year experience with digital point-of-sale systems, preferably in a cultural environment. Duties include but aren't limited to facility opening and/or closing procedures, answering busy phones, registering patrons for a variety of classes, programs and/or events, sales of goods and services. At the Lakewood Cultural Center, VSA will sell tickets to cultural performances and community events and assisting with fulfillment of season tickets. The position will require weekend and evening availability. Essential Functions Interact professionally with the public as an initial point of contact at HCA location front desks. Sell tickets and facilitate class registrations in person and over the phone utilizing CivicRec, Accesso Showare and/or other software programs. Conduct accurate and timely cash, credit, and similar transactions for sales of City goods and merchandise. Proficiently use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Have the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with changing priorities. Comfortable with working desk alone in evenings for classes, programs, or performances or LCC show time/walk-up sales. Interact with others in a positive manner and handle challenging customer service issues appropriately. Arrive on time for scheduled shifts, dressed appropriately and prepared to maintain a positive rapport with both the public as well as staff. Learn new procedures quickly and stay abreast of promotions for both HCA and rental events. Respond appropriately to emergency situations according to standard policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. This position involves a medium level of physical demands which include standing, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, as well as lifting and carrying supplies as needed (maximum 25 lbs. without assistance). Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and other office equipment. Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assist patrons in person and over the phone. Required Experience Minimum of one-year digital point-of-sale or registration experience, preferably in a cultural environment. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred Experience Background in arts & culture and/or knowledge of arts venue operations. Patron services or box office experience preferred for assignment to Lakewood Cultural Center. For assignment to Washington Heights, experience with pottery operations, weaving/fiber arts, or other visual arts is preferred. For assignment to the Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, a demonstrated appreciation for local historical education, interpretation or appreciation is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proven effective customer service skills. Accurate cash handling and reconciliation skills. Ability to work variable shifts including days, evenings and/or weekends. Able to communicate effectively and respectfully in writing, in person or on a phone. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees, volunteers and patrons. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgement and initiative to anticipate needs of customers and the organization. Proficient skill and ability with the Microsoft Office suite of software and applications. Able to be prompt and reliable. Able to pass a thorough background check to demonstrate responsibility and integrity. Pay Range $15.76-$19.29 Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
