Overview
Medical Science Liaison, Cardiovascular (Tennessee and Kentucky) at Bristol Myers Squibb. The MSL identifies disease- and product-related medical needs in a defined geography, develops and maintains relationships with Thought Leaders (TL) and Healthcare Providers (HCP), and engages in scientific exchange to support medical education, data generation, insight generation, and patient access to medicines. The MSL serves as the medical resource for external stakeholders in the community and collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure safe and appropriate use of BMS medicines. Key Responsibilities
External Environment and Customer Focus: Develop and maintain relationships with academic and community research TLs, HCPs, and access stakeholders within the geography; engage via 1:1 interactions, group presentations, and remote channels; respond to scientific, unsolicited product, and HEOR-related questions while ensuring medical accuracy and compliance. Medical Knowledge and Communication: Present information effectively to TL/HCPs, respond to questions, and stay current on treatment strategies, products, unmet medical needs, clinical trials, HEOR concepts, and the competitive landscape. Strategic Partnerships: Identify opportunities to collaborate with HCPs on disease-state initiatives, collaborative research projects, and investigator-sponsored research aligned with BMS objectives. Conferences and Insights: Attend medical congresses and regional meetings; collect meaningful medical insights and share them with medical and commercial teams to support strategy and business decisions. Contribute to the Medical Plan
Develop geography-specific Field Medical and TL interaction plans aligned with therapeutic area objectives and TL needs. Adopt institution/account planning approaches and contribute to cross-functional plans. Contribute to development and delivery of scientifically meaningful medical programs in line with local Medical and Field Medical plans. Provide Medical Support
Establish a customer-centric, compliant collaboration with cross-matrix field teams in the assigned geography. Support medical/scientific area and product-specific training; provide scientific updates to internal stakeholders (e.g., Commercial, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Legal, HEOR, Value Access & Payment). Provide scientific support at promotional meetings by presenting data, evaluating speakers, and supporting BMS-contracted speakers when applicable. Participate in assigned Congress activities. Support Clinical Trial Activities
Support interventional and non-interventional studies to facilitate patient recruitment and discuss the safe and effective use of BMS investigational products, as defined with Home Office Medical and Global Development Operations (GDO). Provide recommendations on study and site feasibility based on field knowledge; support ISR submission and execution with HCPs as agreed with Home Office Medical and GDO. Ensure Pharmacovigilance procedures are understood and followed by investigators; alert BMS personnel to any adverse events; support CRO-sponsored studies per study scope. Qualifications & Experience
Required Experience
MD, PharmD, PhD, APP, PA, NP with experience in a specific disease area or broad medical/pharmaceutical background. Knowledge Desired
Disease area knowledge and understanding of scientific publications; familiarity with scientific/clinical areas, competitive landscape, and patient treatment trends; knowledge of clinical trial design and process; knowledge of national healthcare and access environments; knowledge of HEOR core concepts; excellent English language skills (spoken and written). Experience Desired
Minimum of 2 years in a clinical and/or pharmaceutical environment; prior MSL experience; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to translate scientific data into understandable information for physicians; strong communication and presentation skills; development of peer-to-peer relationships; ability to quickly learn new subject areas; demonstration of BMS values. Essential Qualification
Ability to drive a company-provided car; must be able to drive to locations and demonstrate applied knowledge of health care industry trends; high ethics and safe driving history required. Travel Requirement
Travel required. Field-based role; MSL will live in the territory or within 50 miles of territory borders; majority of time in the field with external customers; additional requirements depending on territory and team needs.
