Millwright / Rotating (MW) Turnaround Planner
The Millwright / Rotating (MW) turnaround planner will be a critical support role during the planning & execution of the turnaround. The Turnaround Millwright / Rotating Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing detailed work plans for mechanical turnaround activities, with a focus on rotating equipment scopes. This role ensures that shutdowns, maintenance, and start-up operations are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. The MW planner will be expected to perform daily planning activities and coordinate amongst all crafts to ensure detailed plans are established and required material is obtained in a timely manner. The expectation is this team member will spend most of their time in the field planning and walking down jobs. During turnaround execution, this role will transition into an execution lead to oversee the successful completion of the job packages they have prepared, or as otherwise needed by the TA organization. This craftsman should be seen as an SME and have years of planning experience within a TA environment. Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Planning & Scheduling: Develop detailed job plans and work packages for rotating equipment and overhaul tasks during turnarounds.
Ability to understand and manage schedules using planning software (e.g., Primavera P6 & SAP).
Define scope of work, estimate labor and materials, and identify required tools and equipment.
Coordinate with different trades and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive and integrated work packages.
Track the status of materials and services from ordering to delivery.
Incorporate safety, site requirements, and operational constraints into planning.
Coordination: Collaborate with operations, engineering, safety, and procurement teams to align turnaround activities.
Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely delivery of services and materials.
Field Readiness & Execution Support: Monitor field execution to ensure adherence to the plan and adjust schedules as needed.
Track progress, manage change orders, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
Coordinate with process safety and operations teams to review mechanical completion and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR) before startup.
Ensure proper documentation and QA/QC protocols are followed.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all plans meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., API).
Participate in risk assessments and scope development meetings.
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments for planned work.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of job plans, drawings, and as-built documentation.
Provide post-turnaround reports and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Ideal Background: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field is highly preferred. Certification: Journeyman certification in Millwright preferred. Experience: 5+ years in industrial maintenance or turnaround environments. 4+ years in a planning or coordination role, preferably in the oil & gas or petrochemical sector. Experience in planning and executing turnarounds is highly preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, and technical specifications.
Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Strong knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, gearboxes, etc.)
Familiarity with planning tools (SAP, Primavera, Prometheus, STO).
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Meticulous attention to detail in planning and executing tasks.
Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of extruders, reciprocating compressors, and large mechanical seals is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
