This is a full-time, exempt-level position located on-site at ADM's operation in Des Moines, IA.

Position Description:

We are seeking an experienced Software Lead to spearhead the development, implementation, and modernization of software for process control systems in industrial automation projects.

The successful candidate will lead software-related aspects of projects involving systems such as Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PlantPAx, ensuring robust, efficient, and innovative solutions that meet ADM specifications and industry standards. This role requires technical expertise, leadership, project management experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge automation solutions.

The ADM Modernization Program [Program Aurora] is an ADM Operations Initiative to modernize our strategic facilities through Automation and Optimization. Utilizing technology and ADM expertise, we will reduce unplanned downtime, support safety initiatives, increase OEE, and standardize our processes across our business units. The Program is an enabler for ADM's Digital Transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Design and Development: Lead the governance and oversight of 3rd party Automation Vendor software design; provide technical requirements for software architecture, programming, and integration

Project Leadership: Oversee software engineering tasks, including system configuration, programming, and integration for modernization projects

Modernization of Legacy Systems: Plan and execute upgrades for legacy control system software (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell PlantPAx) to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability

Collaboration: Work closely with hardware engineers, control system engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components

Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain detailed software specifications, functional descriptions, narratives, and programming documentation. Provide input for cross-functional reviews

Testing and Commissioning: Lead software testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities to ensure systems meet operational requirements. Coordinate FAT/SAT testing and deliverables for software components

Compliance and Standards: Ensure all software designs comply with industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC, NEC) and client-specific requirements, including cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443)

Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors for procurement of software tools, licenses, and services, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints

Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field, advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., PE, PMP) are a plus; experience in lieu of education will be considered

7+ years of experience in industrial automation software development, with at least 3 years in project execution

Proven expertise in designing and implementing software for process control systems. Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PlantPAx preferred

Experience with modernization projects, including upgrading legacy control system software to modern platforms

Proficiency in programming PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems

Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP)

Ensures adherence to ADM standards and best practices for software development and process control

Expertise in configuring and programming control logic, HMI development, and data historian systems

Familiarity with reading and understanding control system architectures and integration requirements

Understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems (e.g., IEC 62443)

Familiarity with various industrial software platforms and experience with designing and troubleshooting software solutions

Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex technical challenges

Effective communication skills to interact with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with multiple process control platforms (e.g., Valmet D/3, Siemens PCS7, Honeywell Experion)

Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies, such as IIoT, edge computing, or predictive maintenance

Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, PMI)

Experience in industries such as oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, food processing, or power generation

Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Emerson DeltaV Implementation, Rockwell Automation Certified Professional, Project Management Professional, or ISA/IEC standards training are highly desirable

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$102,100.00 - $180,000.00

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus and a long-term incentive plan
