Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the company's construction projects and overall accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with industry-specific accounting standards, and supporting project managers and executives with timely financial analysis. The Senior Accountant will contribute to month-end close, job cost reporting, WIP schedules, and compliance with GAAP as well as construction industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and perform day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage project accounting, including job cost tracking, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, percent-complete calculations, and revenue recognition.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and accruals.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and construction-specific accounting practices.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor budgets, forecast costs, and identify variances.
- Maintain and reconcile retention receivables/payables and contract billing schedules (AIA billings).
- Assist with audits, both internal and external, and coordinate with CPA firms.
- Monitor compliance with subcontractor agreements, lien waivers, insurance requirements, and prevailing wage reporting if applicable.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency in accounting systems.
- Mentor and support junior accounting staff as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA preferred).
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting concepts including job costing, WIP, retainage, and contract billings.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software.
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with project teams and leadership.
