SCHOOL SECURITY GUARD
Terms of Employment: 10-Month Position
Job Summary:
The School Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school property. This role involves monitoring premises, preventing unauthorized access, enforcing school rules, and responding to emergencies in a professional and timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in monitoring student arrival, dismissal, and transitions during the school day.
* Patrol school entrances, grounds, hallways, and parking areas to maintain a visible security presence.
* Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious behavior or safety hazards.
* Ensure that all school visitors are properly signed in and display appropriate identification badges.
* Intervene in disturbances and diffuse confrontations using de-escalation techniques.
* Support emergency response efforts during drills, evacuations, and actual emergencies.
* Work collaboratively with school staff to address student behavioral issues and reinforce a safe school climate.
* Conduct safety inspections and ensure doors, gates, and other access points are secure.
* Prepare incident reports and documentation as needed.
* Enforce school policies, rules, and procedures in a respectful and consistent manner.
Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED required.
* Some college coursework is preferred.
* Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or working with school-age children is strongly preferred.
* Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact respectfully with students, staff, board members, parents, and the public.
* Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) preferred.
* Must pass background checks and fingerprinting as required by state education and law enforcement agencies.

Work Environment: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor school settings in all weather conditions. The position may require standing and walking for extended periods. May involve exposure to situations that require conflict resolution or emergency response.
Schedule: Aligned with the school calendar. Occasional after-hours coverage may be required for school events or emergencies.
