Machine Learning is integral to Turnitins continued success. You will join a global team of scientists and engineers to deliver cutting-edge, well-engineered ML systems and work closely with product and engineering teams to integrate ML into a broad suite of learning, teaching, and integrity products. This role has global reach across billions of papers and hundreds of millions of graded responses on our platforms.
Responsibilities
Work with subject matter experts and product owners to determine meaningful questions and data needs.
Curate, generate, and annotate data; create optimal datasets with responsible data collection and model maintenance practices.
Prepare trainable datasets from raw data using SQL and scripting languages; visualize data as needed.
Develop and tune ML models, including dataset selection, architectures, and parameters; production-ready considerations.
Utilize, adopt, and fine-tune Language Models, including third-party LLMs (via prompt engineering and orchestration) and locally hosted LMs.
Stay current with research; experiment with new architectures and LLMs; share findings.
Optimize models for scaled production usage.
Communicate insights, model behavior, and limitations to peers and product teams.
Write clean, efficient, modular code with automated tests and documentation.
Stay up to date with technology and explain technical decisions to the organization.
Required Qualifications
Experience with text data to build Deep Learning/ML models (supervised and unsupervised). Experience with other modalities (vision, speech) is a bonus.
Strong math and theory foundation in machine learning and deep learning.
Software engineering background with at least 8 years of experience (Python, SQL, Unix, Git, GitHub).
Understanding of language models, training/fine-tuning, and familiarity with standard LM families.
Master's degree or PhD in CS, Electrical Engineering, AI, ML, applied math, or related field, with relevant industry experience; or outstanding achievements. CS background required; software development proficiency is a prerequisite.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills; fluent in written and spoken English.
Would Be a Plus
Experience coding for at-scale production, including backend API services or libraries.
Experience with prompting, fine-tuning or training LLMs on open-source or cloud platforms (e.g., Mosaic or stochastic.ai).
Showcase previous work (website, presentations, open source code).
The expected annual base salary range
for this position is
$111,000/year to $185,000/year . This position is bonus eligible / commission-based.
As a Remote-First company, actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer and is determined by work location and other factors including experience, skills, degrees, licensures, certifications, and job-related factors. Internal equity and market factors are also considered.
