The Azure Storage team is chartered with building and operating the persistent storage for the entire Microsoft Azure cloud. Azure Storage consists of a platform which currently powers six different storage services Files, Disks, Blobs, Data Lake, Tables, and Queues. As a Principal Software Engineer - Azure Storage, you will drive and lead the design, implementation, and optimization of systems and workflows for new capacity enablement and secret management, which can scale up to support exabytes of storage and provide world-class reliability, performance, and security. Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Reviews work items to deepen knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and executes project plans, release plans, and work items. Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform. Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple groups project plans, release plans, and work items. Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, and working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions. Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and sharing knowledge with other engineers. Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; OR equivalent experience. 5+ years of analytical, problem solving and organizational skills experience. Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements. These include, but are not limited to, the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of proficiency delivering high-quality, large-scale services in cloud applications. 8+ years of experience in storage and file systems is a plus. 5+ years proficiency in the development of cloud services and distributed systems is a plus. 5+ years of multi-year native C/C++ code development skills is a plus. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations; in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
