Position Summary The Senior Solution Architect plays a critical role in designing and implementing innovative digital solutions to enhance the performance and reliability of MPC’s Operational Facilities. This role blends Information Technology and Operational Technology expertise to drive strategic advancements and support mission-critical operations. The ideal candidate will align solutions with enterprise architecture standards, assess and integrate emerging technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business goals. Strong leadership, business acumen, and Oil & Gas industry experience are highly valued in this role. This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Supports architectural governance and compliance, and contributes to defining principles, guidelines, and standards. Participates and contributes to solution architecture reviews and ensures architecture adherence.

Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure solution alignment with business objectives.

Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and platforms.

Takes a more active role in analyzing technology trends and impacts and contributes to vendor assessments.

Leads the design and development of end-to-end solutions that meet business requirements.

Analyzes and translates business and technical requirements into solution designs.

Leads the translation of business and technical requirements into architectural blueprints, collaborating with product owners and managers. Defines system integration approaches and ensures interoperability of components.

Provides guidance and support to development teams during solution implementation. Manages the architecture for a broader scope of projects and develops roadmaps for portfolio evolution.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience required.

5+ years of relevant architecture experience required.

Functional Expertise – Understanding of technologies, platforms, and systems relevant to architecture (networking, databases, cloud, security).

Internet of Things (IoT) – Familiarity with IoT concepts and architectures that integrate devices and data exchange.

Machine Learning – Understanding of ML concepts and how they inform architectural decisions.

Process Orchestration – Coordination of tasks and workflows across systems to optimize operations.

Solution Architecture – Designing and describing the structure of comprehensive solutions to meet business needs.

Strategic Outlook – Develops long-term plans aligned with MPC’s strategy.

Systems Thinking – Understands how components interact within a complete system.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.

5+ years of relevant architecture experience.
